Beginner Wheel Throwing: The Essentials, 5 weeks

Monday’s 6:30pm-9:00pm, Tuesdays 6:00-8:30pm, or Saturday’s 8:00am-10:30am.

This class is open to beginners 16+ interested in learning the essentials of throwing on the pottery wheel. We focus on Wedging, Centering, Trimming. During our last week you learn about glazing. Participants can expect to have 6-12 finished pieces that you made on your own, start to finish!

Class meets once a week for demonstrations. You will need to purchase a basic pottery tool kit, an apron and bring an old towel. Tool kits available in the studio.

Additional bags of clay available for purchase. Class fee covers one bag of clay, firing and glazing, and locker for storage.

*Please wear clothes & sneakers that can get dirty and bring an old towel with you. Sneakers are required in the studio.

Wheel Throwing II

Tuesday & Thursday: 6pm -8:45pm (twice a week, 4 weeks)

This class is great for returning students who are comfortable centering & trimming on the potters wheel. You will continue building on your throwing skills as you are introduced to new forms, surface techniques, and explore more complex glazing techniques. One 25lb. bag of clay, glazes, firing, and instruction included.

**Please wear clothes & sneakers that can get dirty and bring an old towel with you. Sneakers are required in the studio.

Ages: 18+

Fees: $365.00 per person

Sunday’s 6:00pm-8:45pm (4 weeks, once a week)

Class meets once a week on Sunday evening for 4 weeks. Great class for folks with a limited schedule. Students must possess knowledge of centering & trimming, 1.5-2.0lbs. This class will continue to build on your pottery wheel skills, while new complex forms and glazing techniques are introduced. One 25lb. bag of clay, glazes, firing, and instruction included. One makeup class allowed with prior arrangement. Class can be taken multiple times as projects will become more advanced. No class on meeting on major holiday’s.

Combo Handbuilding & Wheel Class

Wednesdays & Friday’s (twice a week, 4 weeks)

Great for those interested in combining wheel throwing and hand building methods. Both beginner and experienced students are welcome. Three hour sessions begin with a weekly demonstration meeting twice a week.

*Students with experience can opt to work independently. Bi-weekly instructor check in is available.

**Please wear clothes & sneakers that can get dirty and bring an old towel with you. No sandals are allowed in the studio, no exceptions.

Handbuilding

Sunday’s , 5 consecutive weeks, 3:00pm-5:15pm (No wheel)

This class will begin with an exploration of the handbuilt form. Students can expect to utilize a variety of slab, pinch and coil building methods. A brief intro of surface design will be included. Instruction clay and firing is provided.

**Please wear clothes & sneakers that can get dirty and bring an old towel with you. No sandals are allowed in the studio. Class is repeatable, projects will continue to challenge and refine you hand building skills and techniques.

Monthly Open Studio Time (6 days a week no instruction)

Monday’s 7am-12pm & 2pm-6pm

Tuesday’s & Thursday’s 7-11am & 7pm-9pm

Wednesday's & Fridays 2pm-5pm & 8pm-11pm

Sundays 6am-11am, 2pm-5pm, 8pm-11pm

Open studio hours are available to advanced and HPS returning students only. To become a member you must have take two four-week classes, which gives you an opportunity to learn our studio operations. And allows us to become familiar with your skill level, while building a relationship with you. Exceptions (after a single four-week class) are made at the discretion of instructors. The open studio option is flexible and allows you to come in and work on your own during specific times- when scheduled classes or events are not in session. By signing up you agree to follow all studio rules and create works that are within our firing guidelines (no thicker than 1/2 through and through). Clay must be bought through the studio, no outside clay allowed. Members are limited to two full kiln shelves of work monthly. Works exceeding 10” in any direction will be charged an additional fee. Memberships are limited.

Team Building

By Appointment; 2 hours needed for apts

We welcome groups of 6 or more for our team building experience. HPS has several project ideas to choose from. Our studio is equipped with 14 pottery wheels and offers both hand-building and pottery wheel projects. Painting a handmade mug or bowl in our studio is another option. No experience is required. Please email to discuss options for larger parties. You are welcome to bring light snacks and for those 21+, you are welcome to BYOB for your event. This is truly an experience your team will be raving about! Please email us with all questions, dates and times of interest or submit an inquiry below under “Special Event Group Sessions”. Operation fee added to parties over 6 participants. Work will need to be picked up in 2-3 weeks. Shipping is additional.

Class Cancelations/Refund Policy: All classes public or private, Date nights, Coffee & Clay, Team Building, Kids Camps, Workshops and recurring classes are non-refundable and may be subject to a 20% rescheduling fee. If you need to reschedule your appointment a 72 hour notice is required and you are subject to one reschedule. Another option would be to send someone in your place, please email us with the name change if doing so. We often hold specialty workshops, so rescheduling isn’t always a possibility. If you cancel with less than 24 hours notice, we will NOT be able to offer you a credit or reschedule. This includes illness, COVID, traffic, daycare, change of plans, etc.

Those arriving later than 15 minutes after the start time, forfeit both their opportunity to reschedule and the lesson. Please understand all appointments take place in a class setting, *unless otherwise stated. By signing up for a class online, you are agreeing to our policy and our studio rules. *Sneakers are required in studio and short finger nails are ideal for all classes.
